Ten Potential Developments

A recent San Francisco Business Times article highlighted ten developments that could significantly alter the SF Bay Area housing market. Let's take a look at a couple of the ones planned for SF:

Hunters Point Naval Shipyard
1,400 homes in Phase 1
10,500 in Phase 2
For Sale and Rent: 30% below market value (BMR)/affordable
Non Residential: 25 acres of parks, trails and open space; 750,000 square feet of retail space.
This project will completely redefine the former Hunters Point military base and potentially house over 20,000 people. The first 88 homes are set to be completed in 2011. 570 units are set to be finished by 2012. The entire project should be completed in 15 years.

Parkmerced
An additional 5,679 units planned would bring the total to 8,900. Most of these will be rental units with some for sale.
Non Residential: Parks, transit stops, retail and a grocery store.
This would create San Francisco's largest rental complex/community. The dangerous MUNI stop at 19th and Holloway would be moved and become part of Parkmerced Village, which would contain a grocery store, farmers' market, cafe and other retail stores. Environmental review is set to be completed by the end of 2009, and the project should come before the Planning Commission in Fall of 2010.
Dine, Shop, Drink and Support a Great Cause!
On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, thousands of friends, neighbors
and associates in San Francisco will support loved ones and friends
living with HIV/AIDS and battling breast cancer by supporting local
participating restaurants, merchants and bars. They will join dozens
of Zephyr Real Estate agents by simply spending time out in their
neighborhood dining, shopping and drinking.

Celebrate this year's Dine Around! Shop Around! Drink Around! at participating restaurants, bars and shops in the Castro, Noe Valley, Mission, Haight, Hayes Valley and SOMA. Up to 25% of your purchases will go to support the AIDS Emergency Fun and Breast Cancer Emergency Fund. So get out there and shop, drink and dine to support a great cause!
There's an App for That?
Earlier this month Mayor Newsom announced an overhaul of the city's 311 Customer Service Center. The Mayor opened the Customer Service data to software developers to write web apps that help disseminate information from the 311 system in a meaningful, user-friendly way.

Some innovative and useful apps have already been created, check out the App Showcase link on the DataSF website. Here are three particular faves:

EveryBlock
EveryBlock publishes a news feed for every city block in San Francisco.  Enter your street address, neighborhood or ZIP code, and the site shows you recent nearby mainstream/blog news coverage, police calls, building permits, restaurant inspections and much more - updated throughout the day, every day.

Routesy San Francisco
Routesy will help you find your way around the Bay Area's top transit systems - San Francisco Muni and BART - in real time. Simply choose the line you want to ride, and Routesy will show you the closest stop or station, along with real-time prediction data to make sure you make it on time.

The Original Parking Locator
The Parking Locator will organize your parking locations, and guide you back to finding your car is ease! An easy to use interface for taking photos of your parking landmarks, adding notes and important details to fully document items like signs and walkways! Enter parking information manually such as the level you are parked, the area, or the numbered spot you are at, even colored names to specify your level. Special integrated features for all the major Bay Area airports for flight schedules, airports services, parking fees & information, as well as security, roadside assistance and more.

Check back to the site often to see what other useful, hyper-local SF apps innovators have created.
